Why You Must Quit Smoking Cigarettes - Today!!!

Smoking is a habit that millions of people have taken up – yet there are so many who wish they’d never started.  All those who want to quit smoking cigarettes need to know the cold hard fact that what they’ve gotten themselves into is an addiction.

Calling this habit an addiction may seem harsh – yet the primary reason smokers get hooked on cigarettes and find it difficult to quit is due to the nicotine contained within cigarettes.  Nicotine is, of course, a drug.  So although it isn’t exactly drug addiction, it is very similar in what it does to the body physically and psychologically.  People crave nicotine just as much as those who have to have that next hit – and there are far more smokers than narcotics users.  Now, the fact that you cannot help yourself in wanting or needing that next puff is actually proof that nobody is out there trying to contract illnesses or something.  Attempting to quit smoking cigarettes is a process that can be lengthy for many people, as they go through programs, gums, patches, and even the cold-turkey approach to rid themselves of this nasty habit.

For the people who smoke and either decide they can’t quit or don’t care, here are some reasons to care deeply:  Those who smoke double their risk of suffering a fatal heart attack.  There are approximately 50 cancer-causing chemical agents contained in cigarette smoke.  This is only part of the roughly 400 agents that can hurt the body – and that is only part of the whopping 4000 total substances that are in tobacco smoke.  By continuing to smoke, you expose yourself to the further risks of pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, bladder cancer...even mouth cancers.  If you expose a close family member to your habit, they become at greater risk to develop a cancerous disease themselves.  If you decide to quit smoking cigarettes, you can cut your risk of cancer by anywhere from 30-50% in a 10-year period.  You can drastically reduce your odds of contracting various cancers and diseases – and the chances of early death can even be cut in half in people who quit when they’re 50.

So what steps can you take to quit smoking cigarettes??  Many people begin with patches that suppress cravings, sometimes by using small amounts of nicotine to gradually wean the smoker off the need for nicotine.  There are also chewing gums that often contain nicotine or a nicotine suppressant.  In other cases, people turn to things like hypnosis to quit smoking cigarettes.  There are lots of times that smokers decide they must try suppressant pills to curb their cravings.  Anyone who uses these remedies – most especially pills – should be aware of potential side effects and risks, and should get all the necessary facts and discuss them with your doctor before making a decision on how to proceed.

The only reason left to say no to choosing to quit smoking cigarettes is that you are worried or unwilling.  Take that brave step today to throw down the cigs and say yes to a cleaner, healthier life.
