QUIT SMOKING BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE

Cancer is one of the first diseases connected to smoking basically because people can’t quit smoking.  There are 438,000 deaths each year in he United States caused by tobacco.  The news gets worse when you realize that more deaths are due to cancer each year than the combined total of those caused by HIV, murder, suicide, vehicle related injuries, alcohol, and illegal drugs.

Maybe you have tried to stop smoking and you just can’t seem to get anywhere.  It’s because of the nicotine addiction.  For a lot of people nicotine can cause an addiction that can be as bad as a person on heroin.

About 90% of all lung cancer in men is caused by cigarette smoking.  African American men have a higher rate of cancer due to cigarette smoking than any other racial or ethnic group.  Around 80% of all women who have lung cancer acquired it through smoking.

Here are just a few suggestions to follow when you are trying to quit smoking:

n      One of the first things you want to do is to take a realistic look at all of the adverse side effects that you get when you are smoking.

n       If the urge to smoke hits you, just think about the situation for a moment before you strike the match.  Consider other ways to satisfy your urge to smoke.

n      Exercise may be a good way for you to relieve the frustration of giving up cigarettes.

n      Treat yourself for each time you take a step forward to your plan to quit smoking.

n      While you are still smoking switch to a low tar cigarette and don’t continue to smoke the brand that you enjoy the most, change to a less desirable brand.  This can help you to lose your desire for cigarettes.

n      Buy packages of cigarettes rather than cartons.

n      When you are going out to eat try to sit in the non smoking section.  When you ae traveling on a plane sit in the non smoking area.

These are only a few suggestions which may help you on your way to quit smoking.

Smoking causes many serious and deadly illnesses.  The leading cause of death in the United States is coronary heart disease.  Another thing is that smokers are 2-4 times more likely to end up with coronary heart disease than those who don’t smoke a all.  With cigarette smoking the risk of having a stroke is twice that of non smokers.  The smoking causes circulation to be reduced because of the activities narrowing.

Perhaps when the smoker starts studying their mortality rate and risk of developing the many disabling and fatal diseases associated with this habit, they will not regard the intent to quit smoking as being so overwhelming.

Learning to kick the cigarette habit may not be easy but will certainly be worth the effort.  You may be able to avoid the many diseases connected with tobacco usage.  Learning to quit smoking will certainly reduce the risk.
